Markup Validator 0.8.3 released

W3COn Friday, the 8th of August 2008, the W3C Validator Developer Team has made public a new stable release version of their W3C Markup Validation service.

Online: http://validator.w3.org/
Documentation: http://validator.w3.org/docs/
Source Download: http://validator.w3.org/source/

0.8.3 is mostly a maintenance/bug fix version, but it also has a few nice new features, especially for developers.

For more info on the changes, see the 0.8.3 news entry on the Validator's news page or this little writeup on the W3C Q&A weblog.

You can also install and use this Markup Validator offline in a local network. For convenience use, ready-to-use binary packages for several Linux distributions like Fedora/Red Hat Linux, openSUSE Linux and Debian Linux as well as for MacOSX do exist. For details see Source code availability for the W3C Markup Validator.

Concerning the openSUSE Linux distribution, the w3c-markup-validator packages are part of the distribution, published via DVD media or available online. The most recent release packages are public available at the openSUSE software repository or at its FTP mirrors. Because I am the maintainer of these packages, they are also public available here at sierkbornemann.de, built on my own home server for testing purposes, before reaching the official openSUSE Build Service.
